Thuringian Mill Cycle Route

Cycling through the mill valley along the mills

75-kilometer circular bike tour through the idyllic Eisenberger Mühltal, the unspoiled Zeitzgrund and the picturesque Gleistal north of Jena.

The Thuringian Mill Cycle Route is a circular cycle route and ideally suited to be ridden in two to three days. The Thuringian Mill Cycle Route connects three mill valleys with over 20, mostly former, water mills. The mills are located away from the villages along the water-rich streams of the forest valleys. Some of the mills still grind as they did centuries ago - but most of the mills are operated and invite you to rest and relax.

As a circular route, the cycle path can be followed from any point. After 75 kilometers, the cyclist arrives back at the starting point. The Thuringian Mill Cycle Path runs partly parallel to the Saal Cycle Path and the Thuringian Town Chain long-distance cycle path. Since the cycle path almost always leads along streams, the gradients are moderate. The natural routing, the many opportunities to stop and rest and the few sections on busy roads make the Thuringian Mill Cycle Path an ideal family destination.
